The Fishery Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) was established in 2006. This to facilitate cooperation in fisheries management between the member countries: Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. The countries have several shared fish stocks and identified a need for cooperation and shared management of these resources.
FCWC Organization engaged in Sea Around Us project
The Sea Around Us project aims to conduct advanced fisheries data analysis and provide collaborative support in fisheries management and marine conservation globally.
The Sea Around Us has recently launched the project ‘Marine Conservation Research, Collaboration and Support in West Africa’. The project has three objectives:
- to increase the quality of existing fisheries data in the West African region;
- to develop strong collaborative relationships between the Sea Around Us project and regional stakeholders;
- to raise awareness and support for fisheries management and marine conservation in West Africa.
FCWC Organization has been identified as PARTNERS of this project and is currently seeking to work with further partners to identify, consolidate and analyze relevant fisheries research on catch, effort and catch values, biodiversity, Marine Protected Areas, and other related issues in West Africa. At this junction we would be very interested to receive information and expressions of interest from individuals and organizations about collaboration with the project.
